Post Script

In Vienna for a brief visit the weekend before Christmas. High on the list of things to see was the Ephesus Museum in the Hofburg Palace.

As a footnote to my piece on the missing treasures of Turkey, I'm attaching a couple of pictures:

  • One tableau from the Parthian frieze and
  • The statue of Artemis.

Visitors to the Aegean region of Turkey will be familiar with miniatures of the Artemis statue. If you, like me, had thought that was the original in the museum at Selçuk, now you know . . . the real one's in Vienna.

  1. I've lived in Selcuk for a decade and thought we DID have the real statue. Should have known better! Thanks, from two Selcuk left-handers...
